OutScribe v ATO

We have been overwhelmed by the support we have received since the 4 Corners episode has been publicised, so thank you for everyone's vote of confidence.  The transcription industry is a variable and flexible one, making it perfect for the gig economy. OutScribe has been operating for 13 years and at all times conducted business with integrity and honesty.  We are proud that over the years we have developed an excellent reputation in the industry, as well as amongst the transcriptionist fraternity.  We utilise the services of Australian contractors to complete the transcriptions, providing people who work from home the independence and autonomy to freelance, whilst ensuring our clients receive a quality and timely service.  We don't control the amount of work they pick up, we don't control their working hours, we can't even control the fact that some of them use Apple Mac's (go figure!). 

The ATO deemed our business model of utilising transcription contractors to not be in accordance with their interpretation of the ruling and took action against the contractors. Our lawyer suggests this may have been illegal and consequently we took up arms on their behalf, as well as the right for OutScribe to continue to keep utilising Australian contractors instead of sending the work offshore, as many of our competitors do.
