New WorkSpace Platform

This year OutScribe invested heavily into our custom platform which puts us into pole position moving into the next transcription era. It was a mammoth task with a full ground-up rebuild using a framework used by companies like Trivago and Spotify.

The rollout went far more smoothly than anticipated so our own hairy IT guru is being quietly smug about it.  There have been some small bugs here and there but all things considering (just think Optus….) it’s been very manageable.  We've made a big effort into making the client interface more intuitive, mobile-friendly and customisable with features like dark mode.

Development is always ongoing and with security in the forefront of our mind we've just finished a round of penetration testing and scored admirably.  Moving into 2024 we will now be weighing up the many ideas we have on our wish list.  We'd love your feedback positive or otherwise.  How much are you loving the new interface?!

AI

AI ….Threat or Opportunity?

  Human hand touches A.I. hand

To date OutScribe has had a policy of not editing AI generated transcripts because they were so inaccurate it was actually quicker to transcribe from scratch.  With the improvement of AI technology we have now reviewed that policy and will edit reasonable quality transcripts.  The usual $/min cost will be discounted once the quality of the transcript has been checked.  Microsoft Teams transcripts have been fairly good, with Zoom catching up quickly.

Does OutScribe see this improvement as a threat or opportunity?  We certainly don’t see it as a threat but rather, a useful tool that can be utilised for some recordings.  Not all recordings or work types are suited but we are intending to incorporate an AI option into our suite of services in the future for clients who feel they may be in a position to benefit.

Before we select and integrate any AI system into ours, not only must it deliver accuracy and efficacy but even of greater importance to us it must provide proof and alleviate concerns around AI transparency, privacy and security.  In the current AI arms race between tech giants there remains significant risks and ethical dilemmas. For example, just a few months ago Zoom was caught giving themselves permission to use client meetings for AI training and it's unclear if Microsoft, who is the largest stake holder of OpenAI (ChatGPT), trains AI from its considerable resources, ie. Sharepoint, Office, Windows OS, Skype, Teams, Xbox or any of its other 130 products.  The power of AI now more than ever increases the ability to attribute previously anonymous data to the actual individuals, with the obvious temptations for corporate and government entities to then leverage this in marketing, societal control, insurance exposure reduction, etc.

In short, before bringing AI into the OutScribe fold we want to satisfy ourselves that we can deliver the benefits of AI without compromising or eroding the privacy and security standards that OutScribe has become known for.

Holiday Period

The WorkSpace platform does not take holidays, so clients are able to upload recordings throughout the Christmas / New Year period. If you need IT support during this time you can email support@outscribe.com.au.

The office will re-open Monday 8th January but emails and voicemails will be monitored for emergencies.  Emergencies must be of a catastrophic nature....

Thank you for continuing to use OutScribe’s services and we wish you and your families all the very best for next year.  Have a fabulous Christmas / New Year break and let’s hope that the weather is kind to us all!

Our dear Raelene

This week we say goodbye to Raelene, who has been in the Administrator’s role for over 10 years. She brought her calm and cheerful personality to the role and I’m sure everyone will agree that she will be greatly missed.
